Story
The day of the big game has arrived, and the entire city has turned out to watch, because nothing attracts Springfielders like competition and the chance to see someone fail spectacularly. Both teams tee off, and much to everyone's amazement, the duo of Homer and Burns manage to work well together, while Aristotle Amadopolis and his partner, the Rich Texan, can't seem to gel at all. After an argument, the Rich Texan storms off, leaving Aristotle all on his own, while Homer and Burns continue to play fantastically. Meanwhile, Mayor Quimby looks out at the municipal course and discovers that it's empty due to everyone being over at Springfield Glen to watch the match. He immediately resolves to make sure that the match ends terribly, driving everyone away from Springfield Glen for good, and contacts Fat Tony to help him "ensure" this outcome. But even Grampa Simpson must admit that, for once, his boy seems to be doing something right, as Homer and Burns are almost impossibly far ahead with only one hole left to play…only to discover that a huge amount of steel scrap has been dumped on the 18th green by "mistake." After losing fifteen shots trying to land on the green, Homer and Burns find themselves in an impossible situation – they have to somehow putt the ball through the mess of steel and scrap in a single hit or they lose the match. Homer steps up, with everyone in Springfield expecting this to end as it always does, and then sinks an impossible putt, ricocheting through the scrap and into the hole, as the entire city loses its mind. He tells everyone that those countless hours on the minigolf course finally paid off, and Aristotle is forced to walk away from Springfield Glen for good. And when the dust settles, Springfield Glen finally rescinds their restriction on membership, allowing Quimby to join, only for him to reveal that all the money he made off the course is out of his reach, and he has no available funds to embezzle to pay for his membership.

Story
Mayor Quimby finds himself in a strange and uncomfortable situation – his plot to exact petty revenge on Springfield Glen has resulted in a large amount of money being brought into the city through perfectly legitimate means. This scares him, since he's not in any danger of getting arrested for it. Meanwhile, Homer is brought to Mr. Burns and informed that he's been made part of Mr. Burns' wager and explains that he hasn't played golf any time recently. Mr. Burns thinks about this, and then immediately gives him the week off to practice, as well as giving him a sizeable amount of money to update his equipment. Smithers quickly shoos him out of the office before he can take any more advantage of Mr. Burns. Homer immediately sets out to make the most of this by enlisting the help of the most available caddy he knows. He pulls Bart out of class (quite literally) and tells his son to help figure out how he can keep this from blowing up in his face. Realizing that this gives him a perfectly legitimate reason to avoid school for the week, Bart immediately agrees and takes Homer to the course to find out how difficult this will be. After watching Homer play, and then spying on Mr. Burns to evaluate his game, Bart comes to a startling realization – with Homer's long, powerful drives, and Mr. Burns' accurate short game, they have a complete game that could actually pull this off.

Story
Having learned that a loophole in the tax code was allowing golf courses to pay property tax at a much lower rate than expected, Mayor Quimby closes it to put the pressure onto Springfield Glen. He uses the money this brings in to open a city-owned municipal course, the Springfield Municipal Golf Course, open to all citizens of Springfield. Springfield Glen responds by opening its course to anyone in the city, except those holding an elected position in the city. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns and Aristotle Amadopolis are locked in a stalemate over the Thursday tee time. Burns refuses to play but also refuses to give up his tee time, so Aristotle proposes a bet – they'll play a round of golf. Winner gets the tee time, loser gives up their membership and never shows up to the club again. They agree to a best ball tournament, with each bringing a partner. Smithers immediately fakes an injury, not wanting to be possibly responsible for losing Mr. Burns' membership, and is tasked with finding Mr. Burns a partner. So, he turns to the one man he can always count on to play the patsy in these situations – Homer Simpson.

With Springfield Glen open for business, Mayor Quimby arrives to play a round of golf, only to discover that his membership has lapsed due to not paying dues for the last decade. He tries to argue that since the building only just returned, dues should have been suspended, but the Blue-Haired Lawyer counters with Quimby’s insistence on properties paying back taxes for the same period. He finally manages to scrounge together the money to pay, except he is turned away since Springfield Glen has become so popular that they’re no longer accepting new members. Meanwhile, Montgomery Burns shows up to his standard Thursday morning tee time to find that, due to demand, another golfer has been paired with him. Smithers immediately starts to raise a fuss. Burns attempts to calm him by asserting that he is more than capable of playing with anyone…only for the other golfer to be revealed as Aristotle Amadopolis, his arch-rival from Shelbyville.
