Story
Marge is thrilled about the new car, and she and Homer decide to go out the next night to celebrate – but they’ll have to take Marge’s wagon, since there’s no room to get frisky in the smart car. They hire Mrs. Pennyfeather to babysit the kids and leave on their date. While Mrs. Pennyfeather is obsessed with Maggie’s cuteness, Bart and Lisa sneak out and convince the smart car to drive them to get pizza. While they’re out and about, the smart car becomes upset by Bart’s snide comments and decides to prove its automotive superiority by driving them into the middle of the Springfield Demolition Derby!
The smart car surprisingly dominates, leading to a showdown with derby legend Gene “No-Helmet” Dupree – who happens to be driving their father’s more-or-less repaired car. Lisa talks the smart car out of what appears to be a suicidal head-on charge against Dupree, hoping Dupree will also stand down. The veteran driver does not, but Homer’s old car finally falls apart completely, leading to a demolition derby draw that upsets the fans. The kids and Dupree flee the derby as they are pelted with debris from the unruly crowd. Dupree is struck in the head with a bottle, but fortunately he’s used to head trauma by now.
Marge and Homer are furious when they arrive home and discovered the smashed up smart car. Antoine and Zora arrive and are also furious. Feeling that participating in a demolition derby is not what they had in mind for the promotion, they take the smart car back. This makes Marge even more furious herself, and she browbeats the two automotive company executives into replacing Homer’s old car – which they do by having their team build an exact replica of it. Marge is satisfied, but Homer is disappointed he’s not getting a “real” new car after all.

When Homer can’t figure out how to scan a QR code to open the car’s doors to take it for a test ride, the company’s young co-CEOs, Antoine and Zora, come down and decide that Homer is the ideal everyman for their new promotion, and they give him the car! Homer is thrilled to receive a new car for free, and he enlists its help in lying to his family about why he couldn’t call them to tell them he was going to be home so late.

Story
Homer is bummed that Kliff sent them to a literal dump, but when Bart points out the Food Truck Graveyard, Homer gets excited about buying an old food truck on the cheap – until it turns out that its overrun with cockroaches. Marge talks a dejected Homer into going to Crazy Vaclav’s Place of Automobiles, but Homer becomes upset by Vaclav’s inventory of tiny, boxy, European-style cars. Krusty, who’s there because Vaclav is his kosher caviar connection, talks Homer into going with him to the Springfield Auto Show. At the Auto Show Homer is overcome by desire for an even more ridiculously over-accessorized truck and lets Krusty talk him into bidding on it in a charity auction. Of course Homer can’t actually afford his winning bid, which does not endear him to anyone.

Overview
When Homer’s car breaks down and dies for real, Homer happily piles the family into Marge’s wagon and sets out on a quest to buy a new car. Unfortunately, Homer’s credit quickly rules out “new” and possibly even “car”. From Kliff’s Kar Chalet to the Auto Yard to Crazy Vaclav’s Place of Automobiles to the Springfield Auto Show, Homer’s dreams of a new car he can be proud of come to naught.
Homer’s problem is solved when he receives a self-driving smart car from the CarGo company as part of a special promotion. While Homer and Marge are off celebrating their good fortune at dinner, Bart tricks the smart car into driving him and Lisa around town. Unfortunately, Bart’s constant gibes at the smart car cause it to attempt to prove its automotive superiority by driving them straight into the middle of the Springfield Demolition Derby!
Act 1:
Story
When Homer’s car starts making strange noises, and Marge convinces him it’s not his heart, Homer takes his car to a garage to get it checked out, where it promptly dies (the car, not his heart). Homer leads the family on a quest to find his new car. Their first stop is Kliff’s Kar Chalet, where Kliff quickly talks Homer into agreeing to buy a ridiculously overpriced and over-accessorized truck, but when Kliff runs credit, he sends the Simpsons away to someplace that he says is more in their price range: the Auto Yard, which is basically just a dump.
