The heatwave has finally faded away overnight. I was VERY ill on Thursday evening with heat exhaustion. In desperation, I had a long, very cool shower to try to lower my core temperature. It felt like the water was boiling off my back as it hit. Took about 20 minutes before I started to cool down to just hot. Been sleeping in the cool basement but the earth around it has heated up too and even that is now about 74F. Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.
