Just spent an hour (an hour!) on the phone with my dad’s land line phone company because THEY sent us a letter telling us we needed to book an appointment to upgrade our phone line to their fibre optic network because the old copper network was being discontinued… and if we didn’t switch the service would be cut off. An hour. To book. An appointment. For a technician. To come. A friggin hour… *cries*

^^ Might be wrong BunnyMeows but no, I don’t think you can. The main phone gets plugged into the new Internet hub / router instead. For instance, I’ve got a set of six cordless landline phones - the main one will plug into the hub but the other five will work as they did before without change.

Hmmmm. I have a few phones that only plug in to the jacks. This could be a problem

So now that he’s looked at the outside box/connection, apparently he cannot just wire it in to the copper connection in the house. So it looks like I’m ordering a set of cordless phones. He said that I could have a contractor come and wire the house afterward with new connections… but that seems a b...View More

FoxyHands - I’m glad you mentioned the cordless set up in your house. It helped prepare me for that scenario and I had already looked up a set of 4.

BunnyMeows Sorry it’s costing you extra but at least you were prepared for the news. With so many people ditching their landlines, it’s just too expensive for phone companies to maintain the equipment any more. Over here, the next step after that will be making people dial the full number for loca...View More

FoxyHands - you defo saved me a panic attack . We’ve been using the area codes here for a long time now - the city grew so much, and the addition of cell phones, mean that we have a few area codes for Toronto, and a few for the areas around it too. You get used to it after awhile. :grinning:
